ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST
SOUTHERN AFGHANISTAN


Chemonics International seeks an environmental compliance specialist for the $150- million, USAID-funded Regional Afghan Municipalities Project for Urban Populations South (RAMP UP-South). The project aims to increase the municipal capacity of southern Afghanistan to enable and sustain economic growth. The environmental compliance specialist will report to the subcontracts, grants, and compliance manager. Responsibilities include: manage the RAMP UP-South environmental review system; ensure compliance with 22 CFR 216 requirements, the Initial Environmental Examination recommendations, and Afghan environmental laws and regulations; work with the RAMP UP-South technical team to complete all required environmental screening for each planned project activity; and assure environmental mitigation and monitoring plans are prepared and implemented for all project activities. QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in a relevant field; Minimum five years of relevant work experience required, including experience managing environmental impact assessments; Experience managing USAID-funded environmental impact assessments strongly preferred; Demonstrated knowledge of applicable USAID environmental policies and regulations strongly desired; English language proficiency required. CARANA seeks a Program Manager for an upcoming USAID funded project in Guyana. Duration: Long-Term. USAID is accepting applications for funding under its LAC Bureau Phase II Initiative for Conservation in the Andean Amazon. This program has the goal of reducing rates of deforestation and biodiversity loss, promoting effective natural resource governance, and increasing livelihood quality and sustainability. CARANA Corporation (www.carana.com), a contractor for USAID, designs and directs innovative economic growth strategies to help countries and businesses compete globally, reducing poverty and raising living standards around the world. For 25 years, we have specialized in market-led solutions to development challenges in more than 80 countries, packaging our expertise with on-the-ground resources for continuing, cost- effective results. The Program Manager will oversee this $2-3 million program for a period of about 4-5 years, and will act as a liaison between USAID, CARANA headquarters, and various stakeholders.
